Exploring Historic New England Seacoast Towns | Program #14011

Portsmouth has been hailed by the New York Times as “an historic gem hiding in plain sight.” From a lovely, historic Inn located in the heart of downtown Portsmouth, discover coastal New England’s art, architecture, and maritime and literary heritage. No visit to Portsmouth is complete without an afternoon at Strawbery Banke, a living outdoor museum that traces the fascinating founding and history of this waterfront town. Throughout the week, Portsmouth historians, an actor, and a retired teacher will be among your guides and teachers as you explore the many charms of this walkable, friendly city by the sea.

In neighboring Maine, enjoy a docent–led visit at the oceanfront Ogunquit Museum of American Art, often referred to as the most beautiful small art museum in the U.S. Walk along an oceanfront path, then go to sea on a lobster boat and see for yourself how those critters are caught.
