Who We Are

Coastal Discoveries (formerly Horizon Travel) is a private business that creates and manages Elderhostel programs throughout New England. The varied programs focus on art, literature, regional history, and island studies, among other topics. Coastal Discoveries Elderhostel programs take place in several towns and cities on the Maine coast and islands, as well as in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. The company also manages several of Elderhostel’s Adventures Afloat programs aboard small cruise ships. The waters they transit include the coast of Maine, southern New England islands, the East River, Hudson River, Erie Canal, Welland Canal, Niagara Falls, and four of the five Great Lakes.

Coastal Discoveries prides itself on a superb working relationship with Elderhostel, which is headquartered in Boston. The four-person (and two-dog) office, along with an outstanding array of freelance group leaders, historians, lecturers and entertainers, delights in meeting new people and learning while traveling.
